Dialogue with Lisa French

Lisa French – survivor of 7/7 - came to Blackburn Cathedral on the 23rd October, in dialogue with Anjum Anwar. Lisa was heard by students from Blackburn College, and the general public. Lisa responded to questions from the young people as well as the general public on “had she become religious since 7/7?” “how did herfamily react?” “What makes her work for peace, when she should be angry?” and many more questions. Lisa told us about her fateful journey on the morning of 7th July, on a bus that would take her to her meeting, which of course, she never reached. She climbed on the bus, pushed by some people, but a young man who she described as a “polite young man” brushed passed her, and went tothe back. After the blast she thought of this young man who had gone to the back, and only realizedthen that he was one of the bombers, who was so “polite?”

Lisa was also one of the 8000 Olympic Torch Bearers, and she very kindly brought hers along for the young people to see, for it is a symbol of peace!

exChange and Global Education schools' visit - 18/6/2012

During 2012, exChange, in partnership with Global Education, have twinned four primary schools from Lancashire and four from Blackburn with Darwen. Two schools visited the Cathedral and a Mosque in Blackburn on Monday 18 June. Sixty Year Five children worked together with teachers from St Stephen’s School, Blackburn and from All Saints in Chorley.  Three further visits from six other schools are planned in late June and early July 2012.  All the schools in this twinning programme will then work with each other on various projects, and Dialogue Development Officer Anjum Anwar will be providing class room activities at all the schools in the next academic period and exChange will organise a major event to bring all eight schools together under one room in 2013.
