 St Francis of Assisi once reminded his brother monks that they were called to preach the Gospel and to use words only where necessary.

 Primary to our Christian witness is our commitment to make a difference in the world by the lives that we lead. To inspire, cajole and challenge us to do so, to enable us to question, search, or express our incomprehension and fear as we try to fulfil God’s will for us the ‘preached message’ , the address or sermon exercises a powerful role in our community.

The written word rarely resonates in the same way as the spoken, but we offer here a selection of sermons, addresses and lectures in the hope that readers will catch something of their vision or their ethical impetus.
