The Cathedral Choir

Blackburn Cathedral Choir includes Boy and Girl Choristers, adult Lay-clerks, and Volunteers. The Choir serves the Cathedral's primary liturgical celebrations and provides a musical start in life to generations of children. Our girls and boys (who all come from local schools) receive the equivalent of over £1,000 free tuition in music every year. The high standards which we reach help them with their schoolwork, because their ability to concentrate is so increased. And they enjoy it!

Our Cathedral Youth Choir is home to many ex-choristers, and sings at the 9.00 Sunday Eucharist each week.

Our choirs broadcast regularly for BBC Radio and also TV; they give concerts with professional orchestras, and they have recently enjoyed tours of Paris, Berlin, Prague, Malta and even the USA! However, their singing here at home in one of the most beautiful places of worship in Lancashire gives them an unparalleled environment in which to spend their formative years.

In recent years we have developed an exciting programme of music outreach to schools in the Diocese.

Our Cathedral Music also promotes an imaginative concert series on Wednesday Lunchtimes. Blackburn Cathedral Choirs' Association is a thriving body of previous Cathedral choristers, which meets for fellowship and strongly supports the musical life of the Cathedral.
