Stunning decorative panel for The St. Martin's Chapel - 5/7/2010

The Blackburn Diocesan Fellowship of Church Needleworkers has just finished a military wall hanging for St. Martin’s Chapel, incorporating regimental badges previously mounted on a damaged altar cloth.

The panel was received and dedicated at the Somme Service on 4th July 2010 by The Very Reverend Christopher Armstrong, Dean of Blackburn who said:

"The Altar frontal in St. Martin's Chapel (the Regimental Chapel) was damaged by water spillage some years ago. The Regimental Badges of The East Lancashire Regiment have now been removed and remounted on silk to form a wall hanging which will be mounted in the Chapel. The Diocesan Fellowship of Church Needleworkers has embraced this project with great enthusiasm and skill. It has resulted in a stunning decorative panel for The St. Martin's Chapel. The Cathedral is grateful to Mr. Raymond Walsh for his generosity which has allowed this project to be completed."

Our thanks go to the needleworkers, who have done an excellent job. They are always looking for new members - if you are interested, please contact Helen Bailey, on 01772 783178.
