Cathedral Development Update - 2/3/2010

At a meeting of the Cathedral Congregation on Sunday, 28th February 2010, Canon Hindley gave the following update on the progress of the Cathedral Development:

The past few months work with the Cathedral Development process has been challenging. Last summer the grant from the Homes and Communities Agency was withdrawn due to changing government priorities with the onset of the banking crisis. After nearly 10 years work on this key regeneration project we weren't about to give. Jack Straw and Graham Burgess (the Chief Executive of the Borough Council) lobbied hard to ensure some funding would be available. We are now working hard with all our partners HCA, NWDA and the Borough Council to move closer to delivery of this key project. In doing so the Cathedral Community will have played a major part in the regeneration of the Town Centre. The extremely positive relationships we have built with our partners goes from strength to strength, without their support none of this would be possible.
