Cathedral organs

Blackburn Cathedral is home to one of the finest Cathedral organs in the country.

Blackburn Cathedral is blessed with a world-class Organ, built by JW Walker in 1969. It was enlarged and rebuilt by Wood of Huddersfield in 2002.

The Cathedral organ

The organ is not only showcased to great effect through its use as an inspirational liturgical instrument, but also through the many recordings that have been made, and in the regular lunchtime concerts and organ meditations that take place throughout the year.

This iconic instrument has been sampled for the Hauptwerk Virtual Organ platform and can be purchased here. Fifty percent of all profits go towards the continued maintenance of the organ.

The most recent recording of the organ was made by the Director of Music, John Robinson to celebrate its 50th anniversary. This may be purchased directly from Regent Records.

A full demonstration of the instrument is given by Organist in Residence, John Hosking on Youtube here.
